A small coaster entering Newhaven Harbour.
Three cross-Channel ships in dock, the nearest ship with two funnells is probably the "Paris"
The cranes on the quay behind the coaster were used to load cargo to/from France. Before the roll-on/roll off service began in the 1960s, 3 small ships only a bit bigger than this coaster were used. They were named: Brest, Nantes & Rennes. Cars were loaded into the hold by crane and presumably their drivers & passengers crossed on one of the passenger ferries.
